Feature Acceptance & Product Backlog
1. Introduction (For Clients & Partners)
When a feature request is accepted during our Prioritization Ceremony, it officially moves into our Product Backlog. The Product Backlog is the central repository of all planned features—where each item is ranked by priority, complexity, and strategic fit. This page explains how your accepted feature is managed and prepared for future sprints.
2. Who Is Involved
Role | Involvement | Benefit to You |
---|---|---|
Product Owner | Maintains the backlog, ensures alignment with overall product strategy. | Keeps your accepted feature visible and prioritized among other items. |
Scrum Master | Facilitates sprint planning, ensuring backlog items are ready for execution. | Streamlines the process so your feature can be assigned promptly. |
Dev Team | Reviews the backlog items, estimates complexity, and schedules work in sprints. | Provides transparency on development timelines for your feature. |
QA Engineer | Prepares test scenarios in anticipation of development. | Improves quality by clarifying acceptance criteria early on. |
Clients/Partners | May be consulted if additional info or clarifications are needed. | Ensures your feature is well-understood and meets your expectations. |
3. Process Flow / Schema
Here’s how a feature transitions from accepted status to ready for development in the Product Backlog (using double quotes for Mermaid labels):
- Feature Accepted in Prioritization: This occurs when the Product Owner deems the feature aligned with our strategy and feasible to implement.
- Backlog Entry: The feature is added to the backlog, with an initial priority level (High, Medium, or Low).
- Additional Details?: Sometimes we need more specifications or clarifications from you before the feature can be marked “Ready.”
- Await Sprint Planning: Once labeled “Ready,” the feature waits for the next available sprint slot.
- Sprint Planning Allocation: Finally, the Dev Team, QA, and Scrum Master scope the feature and slot it into an upcoming sprint.
4. Short FAQ
Q1: How soon will my accepted feature be developed?
A1: That depends on priority, team capacity, and the complexity of other backlog items. High-priority features often get scheduled within the next sprint or two.
Q2: Can priorities change after acceptance?
A2: Yes. We review the backlog bi-weekly during our Prioritization Ceremony. If a critical new item arises, priorities might shift, but your feature remains in the backlog.
Q3: Do I need to provide more information once my feature is in the backlog?
A3: If the Dev Team or QA needs further details (user flows, acceptance criteria), we’ll reach out. The clearer your specifications, the smoother the development process.
Q4: How can I track progress before it enters a sprint?
A4: You can view our Quarterly Roadmap or ask the chatbot about your feature’s status. Once it’s assigned a sprint, you’ll see it move into “Planned” or “In Progress.”
