Setup

Getting the assistant into your server: create a bot in Discord, copy two credentials, paste them into AI SmartTalk, invite the bot, then pick the channels it answers in. About 10 minutes end to end.

Step 1 — Create a Discord bot

1. Go to the Discord Developer Portal and sign in.
2. Click New Application, give it a name (this will be the bot's display name).
3. In the left menu, click Bot → Add Bot.
4. Under Privileged Gateway Intents, enable:
   • Message Content Intent (required so the bot can read messages)
   • Server Members Intent (optional, useful for member-aware flows)
5. Click Reset Token and copy the token — you'll paste it into AI SmartTalk in a moment. Treat this token like a password; anyone with it can control your bot.

Step 2 — Get the application ID

In the General Information tab of your Discord application, copy the Application ID.

Step 3 — Connect to AI SmartTalk

1. In AI SmartTalk admin, go to Integrations → Discord.
2. Paste the Application ID and the Bot Token.
3. Save.

Step 4 — Invite the bot to your server

1. In the Discord Developer Portal, go to OAuth2 → URL Generator.
2. Tick the scope bot and the permissions Send Messages, Read Message History, Embed Links, Add Reactions.
3. Copy the generated URL and open it in your browser.
4. Pick the server and confirm.

The bot now appears in your server's member list. Give it access to the channels you want it to work in.

Keep "Embed Links" ticked

The assistant answers with branded cards that carry your colours. If the bot can't post them in a channel, it automatically falls back to a plain text reply — but you get the nicer look only where Embed Links is granted.

Step 5 — Choose where it answers

Back in Integrations → Discord, open the Channels tab. Every channel the bot can read is listed under its server, and you pick how it behaves there:

• On mention (default) — it answers only when addressed, so it stays out of ordinary conversation.
• Open — it answers every message in that channel.

Open the channels people go to for help; leave the rest on mention. You can change a channel's mode at any time — it takes effect on the very next message.
