Discord

Add your assistant as a bot in your Discord server so it can answer questions, respond to slash commands, understand images and voice notes, and help keep the server clean.

Setting it up takes about 10 minutes — Discord requires you to create a bot application on their side first (their rule for every bot, not just ours). The Setup guide walks you through it.

How members use it

  • /ask a question — a built-in slash command. Members type /ask and their question, and the assistant answers in the channel.
  • @-mention the bot anywhere — same thing, in conversation form.
  • DM the bot for a private exchange.
  • Send a photo — the assistant reads the image and answers about it (a screenshot, a product photo, an error message).
  • Send a voice note — the assistant transcribes it and replies.

The bot only reads channels you've explicitly granted access to.

Where it answers

By default the assistant stays quiet until someone addresses it — with /ask, an @-mention, a DM, or a reply to one of its own messages. In a busy server that keeps it out of the way.

For a channel where you'd rather it answer everything — a #help or #support channel, say — open that channel in Integrations → Discord → Channels. Every channel is in one of two modes:

  • On mention (default) — it answers only when someone addresses it.
  • Open — it answers every message, no mention needed.

In either mode, the assistant stays out of a message addressed to someone else. If a member writes @Marie can you take a look?, it won't jump in — even in an open channel. It answers when it's the one being asked.

Quiet isn't blind

Staying silent doesn't stop it watching: moderation still applies to every message the bot can see, in both modes.

What it can do

  • Answer with text and branded cards (Discord embeds), or plain text where embeds aren't allowed
  • Read images and voice notes members send
  • Run SmartFlows as slash commands
  • Moderate a server against your written rules
  • Land every conversation in the unified Inbox with the Discord icon

Common use cases

  • Community FAQ — members ask product questions in #help, the bot answers from your knowledge base
  • Self-service actions — a /order-status or /create-ticket slash command backed by a SmartFlow
  • Image support — a member drops a screenshot of an error and asks what to do
  • Onboarding — a SmartFlow welcomes new members and routes them based on their answers
  • Keeping it clean — the assistant enforces your server rules automatically

Connect more than one server

You can add the same assistant to several Discord servers. They share one knowledge base and behave the same way — the assistant doesn't tell your servers apart.

If you want to change how the assistant answers on Discord (compared to your website or other channels), use a SmartFlow with the Chat Service trigger set to the Discord channel. That override applies to Discord as a whole, across every server you've connected.
